Open letter to Tom Werner
Dear Mr. Tom Werner,
(the non-Boston Red Sox owning one, that is),
As a long time and still satisfied user of your widely acclaimed service Gravatar.com it has come to my attention that for over a month now, we (“the community”) haven’t heard from you regarding your plans on upgrading and enhancing the Gravatar servers. Although I realize that to you Gravatar is just a side project (figure it’s costing you more money than it actually generates, right?), I would like to point out that to other people Gravatar has become no less than the reflection of their personality.
Take me for example (not to be self centered or anything): my current Gravatar is a picture of Dutch former A-list presenter Frank Masmeijer. His face on my messages has been funny for the first couple of days, but now it’s getting really old really fast. I mean, who wouldn’t be laughed at for a couple of seconds walking around with an Arsenio Hall (to randomly name one washed-up celebrity) mask taped to his face before being ignored completely? Right! So…
Writing to you on behalf of (I guess) over a million Gravatar users, I ask you kindly to prioritize the installation of the new servers. Please? We (all three million of us) would really appreciate it! If that remains an impossibility at this moment, could you at least bring us up to speed on what kind of problems you’re facing and when we can expect improvement in the availability of your service? Pretty please?
Hoping to hear from you soon,
Kind regards,
Maarten van Maanen
P.S. Nevermind the fact that this website is predominantly written in Dutch, Mr. Werner. Feel free to leave a reply (in English) here. Even if you are the Red Sox-owning one.
Update @ 2:50am: Wow. This is just eerie… Within an hour of submitting my open letter I have received a reply! Tom Werner informs us on the Gravatar status on his blog! What are the odds?
